Senators Duckworth, Murray, and Booker Announce “Right to IVF Act”

Senators Duckworth, Murray, and Booker have introduced a legislative package, titled the Right to IVF Act, to establish a nationwide right to in vitro fertilization (IVF) while significantly reducing the financial burden on families.

The press release linked here, issued by Senator Tammy Duckworth's office, announces the unveiling of a comprehensive legislative proposal that promises to reshape the accessibility and affordability of IVF across the United States. A summary of the bill is also available here.

Below are highlights from the press release:

Nationwide Right to IVF. The legislative package establishes a nationwide right to IVF and certain assisted reproductive technology (“ART”) services.

Access to Care. The proposed legislation seeks to make IVF and other fertility care more affordable by requiring many insurance plans to cover treatment.

Expanded coverage for servicemembers. The proposed legislation would expand coverage for servicemembers and verterans to include cropreservation of gametes (freezing eggs or sperm) in advance of deployment to a combat zone and coverage for IVF.

The proposed legislation has the support of both the American Society for Reproductive Medicine and RESOLVE: The National Infertility Association.

I’ll be keeping an eye on this legislation and sharing updates here in the future.
